My mom was in labour at that time when he read out the list of names the fortune teller gave, and been in pain, you naturally wouldn't listen to whatever people around you were saying,so my mother chose the one with the nice sound and named me Bao Shi,literally translated to Precious Gem.
My family name is Ng,which stands for Yellow in Chinese,so adding that to my name, you have Yellow Gem.However,my dad/uncle/whoever gave me the name Janis too, which sounds 100% better than my chinese name.No one ever called me by my chinese name.Ever.
Until I went to Secondary School.People literally translated my chinese name to(many ways of reading one chinese character) Bao Si(Sure die),Bao Shi(Diamond)... the list goes on.
I will feel offended if people found out my chinese name.It wasn't fun to be teased because of one mistake your parents made.
I did change the last character though. You know, chinese characters have four tone.I took the last one;shi.Which means Thing.Which still doesn't sound that nice....
Recently,I just found out what is a yellowstone.I'm not a gem expert and I only knew the names for the red gem :/
Anyway,Sapphire is a gem, hopefully an expensive one,and that probably represents me.
